The final results of the project 'Ornithological community of Diego Ramírez archipelago' carried out during a 76 day expedition from December to February 1980/81 is presented. These islands represent the southern end of Southamerica (and the Neotropics), and ecological research was performed on the fields of orrlithology, marine mammalogy and invertebrate zoology, as well
as terrestrial entomology , botany, geology and meteorology. This with the aim to increase
knowledge on the area surveyed, to asses bird species (numbers and biomass) and relate these topics biogeographically. This small archipelago is occupied by subantarctic ornithofauna which also
stretches biogeographically with some community differences, north along the outermost fringe of
the vast south-chilean archipelagos, as shown recently by other austral ornithological research, thus
contributing with changes to the previous established zoogeographical knowledge of that region.
