The work was conducted in the Bransfield Strait and its surroundings, from the 24th. of January until the 12th. of February, 1985, on board of the M/N "Capitan Luis Alcazar". The main objective of this investigation was to study the phytoplankton distribution. A total of 27 oceanographic stations were occupied. The results show a slight change in the pattern of chlorophyll "a" distribution, as compared wiht the FIBEX and SIBEX-Phase I cruises, which were characterized by a low phytoplanktonic biomass in the centre of the Bransfield Strait, product of an intense, grazing by krill (Euphausia superba) and salp as (Salpa thompsoni), In SIBEX-Phase II, the chlorophyll "a" distribution showed an area with high phytoplanktonic biomass, 20.0 mg/m3, between the northern part of the Gerlache Strait up to the waters surrounding Nelson and King George Islands.
