Abstract
This work is mainly focused on analyzing the impact Argentina’s participation in the rescue of Otto Nordenskjöld’s (1901- 1903) expedition had on the Argentine society. For it, publications from the La Nación, La Prensa newspapers and Caras y Caretas magazine between 1903 and January 1904 were reviewed. We attempted to collect the statements that were part of the narrative about the rescue of the sailors from the Antarctic on board the Uruguay. The latter, under captain’s Irizar command, rushed on the race to save the Swedish expeditioners. This fact marks, to a certain extent, the first step of Argentina’s uninterrupted presence in the Antarctic continent, allowing us to assess the early stages of the official message that sought to legitimize Argentina’s sovereignty over a portion of the Antarctic land mass
